Job Description
Are you organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about making a difference?
Do you love numbers, spreadsheets, and systems? Thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same? Enjoy checking things off your to-do list and helping others stay on track? Are you someone who takes pride in doing things right the first time and sees your work as part of something bigger? If so, we should probably talk.
North Philadelphia Non-Profit Team is looking for a Bookkeeper to join our dedicated team. This is a full-time opportunity for someone who’s passionate about serving the community and has the accounting skills to match. We’re a grassroots nonprofit—more roll-up-your-sleeves than buttoned-up boardroom so we’re looking for someone who thrives in that kind of environment.
As our Bookkeeper, you’ll be the financial backbone of our day-to-day operations. You’ll work directly with department heads to collect, input, and organize financial data, help develop our central billing process, and support accurate reporting across the organization. You’ll also work closely with our leadership team to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Nonprofit or city-contract experience is a huge plus (but not required if you’re eager to learn)!
This role is ideal for someone with an accounting background, at least 5 years of relevant experience, and a passion for doing work that matters.
Compensation
• Salary Range: $65,000–$70,000
• Paid Time Off
• Benefits available
Responsibilities:
• Manage financial records for multiple departments within the organization
• Collect and organize financial data from various department heads
• Input and maintain data using accounting spreadsheets and QuickBooks
• Prepare financial information in a taxable format
• Assist with budget creation, tracking, and reporting
• Collaborate with a developing central billing department
• Support financial reporting and ensure compliance with nonprofit standards
• Adapt to fluctuations in funding, especially those related to city contracts
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (nonprofit background is a big plus)
• A solid accounting foundation—not just data entry, but understanding the “why” behind the numbers
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred, but not required
• Experience with QuickBooks required
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• The ability to work independently and take initiative
• Excellent communication and follow-up skills
• Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus
• A desire for a long-term position with room to grow
• A service-oriented mindset and genuine care for the community
