Position: Video Tech Intern

The Video Tech Intern for Gateway Studios plays an important role in the day-to-day operations of the video department. The Video Intern will learn and perform various kinds of skills, such as building and testing LED walls, cleaning and inspecting camera equipment, prepping camera kits, etc. Working right alongside some of the leading video professionals in the field, the Video Intern will gain knowledge and experience, create relationships, and develop skills that they will be able to use throughout their career.

INTERNSHIP OUTCOME

Learning Objective/Job Responsibilities:
Build, test, and clean LED Walls:

• Learn how to build LED screens in such a way that follows department guidelines.
• Learn how to clean LED screens in such a way that follows department guidelines.
• Learn how to test LED screens, ensuring that they’re working properly for upcoming events.
• Assist Video Technicians in the operation and maintenance of LED screens.

Orientation of Multi-Camera System:

• Be introduced to a multi-camera system.
• Learn how to use and operate a multi-camera system.
• Learn the purpose of a multi-camera system.
• Learn all the different camera types and configurations, such as FOH, HH, Gib, Robo, Steady cam, rail cams, etc.

Clean and Inspect Cameras:

• Learn how to properly clean a camera body.
• Learn the basic protocols for inspecting and servicing cameras.
• Assist Video Technicians in cleaning and inspecting various types of cameras.

Build Cameras:

• Develop skills in building cameras.
• Assist Video Technicians in the process of building cameras.
• Learn how to operate different types of tripods, such as heavy duty tripods, HH tripods, gib, steady cam, rail cam, etc. 
• Gain knowledge about different kinds of camera lenses.
• Learn how to work with many different kinds of camera lenses.

Prepare Various Camera Kits:

• Learn how to properly prepare and package camera kits.
• Assist Video Technicians in the preparation of various camera kits for upcoming shows.

Projection Screens Build Up:

• Be introduced to projection surfaces, such as FP & RP.
• Develop adequate skills in building projection screens.
• Learn how to properly clean projection screens.
• Assist Video Technicians in building and maintaining projection screens.
• Assist Video Technicians in hanging and mounting projection screens.

Attendance:

• Attendance is an essential requirement for this position.

Any Other Duties as Assigned by Supervisor:

• To be determined by supervisor on a project or permanent basis. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certificates:

• University student pursuing a degree in a related field.
• Young professional pursuing a career in video production or related field.

Experience:

• Attended or attending classes that pertain to the internship position.
• Experience in live camera operation and with LED walls.
• Experience working in live events, such as stagehand work. 

Skills/Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of equipment and industry terminology.
• Willingness to learn and ability to follow direction.
• Aptitude for grasping technical skills.
• Great attitude and open-mindedness.
