Job Summary:

The Volunteer role involves providing support and assistance to patients and their families in a hospice setting. Volunteers contribute to the overall care and comfort of patients, help with various tasks, and provide companionship. This position is essential in enhancing the quality of life for patients and supporting the hospice care team.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide companionship and emotional support to patients.
  • Engage in activities with patients, such as reading, talking, playing games, or simply being present.
  • Assist families with light household tasks or errands as needed.
  • Attend required training sessions and ongoing educational programs.
  • Stay informed about hospice policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities and hours.
  • Report any significant observations or concerns to the Volunteer Program Manager or assigned staff.
  • Provide companionship to the clients and their families.
  • Provide any feedback to Hospice Team members on any changes that may have occurred.
  • Provide a safe and comfortable environment for the client and family.
  • Provide Support for the client and always respect their privacy and property.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with office duties as needed.
  • Assist with any outside projects such as health fairs or fund raisers or other special projects.

  Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Must have patience and be a good listener as well as good communication skills.
  • Must be dependable, flexible and understanding.

Age-Related Competencies:

Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify with clients needs.

Information Management:

Treats all information and data with strict confidentiality and security.

  Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Must be able to read and write and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • License / Certification:
    • Driver’s license and proof of current auto liability insurance preferred.
    • Reliable transportation

Environmental Conditions:

Working in clients home under various conditions, possible exposure to blood and body fluids and infectious diseases. Needs the ability to work flexible hours and travel locally. May have some exposure to unpleasant weather. Must have Hepatitis profile. Working in the office in a routine office environment.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting and standing is required. Occasional lifting, pulling, carrying and pushing items up to 50 lbs. Requires the ability to handle stressful conditions in a calm and courteous manner to meet the client or employer’s needs. Requires good hand to eye coordination and excellent problem solving.
